How do they sign up?
They just have to let their music teacher know
during their regular music class that they want
to join.
What do the students do who are NOT in chorus
while their classmates are at chorus rehearsal?
They remain with their classroom teacher for “Writing
Workshop”. This is an extra class of writing
to practice cursive writing, writing paragraphs,
and basic language arts.
Do the chorus students have to make up the work
from Writing Workshop?
No. The workshop work is extra. Chorus students
will not be required to make up any work.
If my child has signed up for Writing Workshop,
and then regrets not joining chorus, can he/she
still join chorus?
Yes, as long as the regret is due to actually missing
the opportunity to sing. The student simply has
to let Ms. Brouillet know that he/she would like
to switch. However, if the desire to be in chorus
is to avoid the writing exercises and not because
he/she loves to sing, , the student should understand
that they will be miserable in a class where the
entire class period is devoted to singing.
Can my child drop out of chorus?
No. It is discussed at length at the very beginning
that the student is making a commitment to a
performance group and has to honor that commitment
for the betterment of the program. The student
should be able to assess whether or not he/she
truly likes to sing. (The analogy of a sports
team is used to exemplify the commitment to practicing
with a team in order to perform their best at
games.)
When and where do they perform?
The Spring Vocal concert is usually at the
end of May or early June. The exact date
will not
be determined until January, 2007. All 3 choruses
perform at Centennial High School. The 3rd
and 4th graders will be presenting selections
under
the theme, “Step Into the Spotlight”.
The 5th graders will present a mini-musical
to be announced very soon.
