Dear Band Parent,

This letter is to inform you that we are compiling a library of CDs and DVDs which band students will be able to borrow free of charge. Listening to professionals perform is a crucial part of a young musician’s education. As an elementary school trumpeter, I listened constantly to recordings of Rafael Mendez, Maurice Andre, Al Hirt and Louis Armstrong. Not only did these players inspire me to practice, but they also provided outstanding examples of tone quality, technique and musical expression. It is with these goals in mind that we begin this musical library at CLES. The current list of available materials is included here, and will be updated on the CLES PTA web site. As you can see, certain instruments or styles are currently better represented than others. This will be remedied as I add to the list during the coming months.

All materials will be checked out of the band room, not the media center. If your child loses or damages an item, you will be asked to remit the replacement cost. The average cost of the items in the library is $14.00. A student may borrow one item at a time for the duration of one week.

If you give consent for your child to participate in our music library, please sign and return the bottom portion of this letter. Thanks very much for your continuing support of band at CLES.
